Principal's Message

A “Special Thought”

 Veterans’ Hill Elementary Principal

 

“Reach for the moon!” has always been a part of my philosophy of education. I believe the school community should dream big and then together plan how to achieve their dream. All members of the school community must have a clear understanding of the vision, goals, and strategies needed to achieve their dream.

               Developing trusting and respectful relationships is essential to the development of a successful school community. When relationships are developed, ownership of learning occurs and the school community becomes one which works together to problem solve and take risks.

               I believe each individual in the school community has a special gift or talent. This talent or gift may or may not be visible. It may be hidden deep inside or masked by challenges. Once these gifts are revealed, the school community must build upon, and utilize the gifts and talents each member has to offer. Essential to education is the ability to set high expectations, listen, provide support, reflect, question, and explain the how’s and why’s of what we do.

               Education is about learning the skills and strategies which will enable each individual to be a successful member of society. I believe we must always have this thought in our minds when thinking about education. “What is the best thing for the learner?” whether the learner is a student, teacher, parent, or other stakeholder of the school community.

 

ALL HUMAN BEINGS ARE BORN WITH UNIQUE GIFTS. THE HEALTHY FUNCTIONING OF OUR COMMUNITY DEPENDS ON ITS CAPACITY TO DEVELOP EACH GIFT.
