Ms. Vanessa Urrutia
Hello! My name is Vanessa Urrutia, and I am the proud principal of Veterans’ Hill Elementary. I come from a proud Peruvian family and am a sequential bilingual learner. My father served in the Army (Hooah!) throughout my childhood, which gave me the unique opportunity to live in many places around the world and attend 12 different schools.
I am a proud graduate of the University of Texas at Austin (Hook ‘Em 🤘), where I earned a bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Sciences, a master’s in Special Education, and a master’s in Educational Leadership and Policy.
My educational journey began as an ABA therapist and later as an educational assistant in an elementary school. From there, I became a third-grade dual language teacher in Austin ISD, followed by roles as an assistant principal and then MTSS Coordinator for Elementary Schools in Round Rock ISD. And now, I am honored to serve the amazing community of Veterans’ Hill.
I am married to the love of my life, Avery Gary, and together we have a wonderful son, Avery Gary Jr., affectionately known as AJ. Being a wife and mother is one of the greatest joys of my life, and family is at the heart of my core values.
I look forward to working with each of you and your children to ensure every student is supported, challenged, and celebrated as they sail toward a bright future!
¡Hola! Mi nombre es Vanessa Urrutia y soy la orgullosa directora de la escuela primaria Veterans' Hill. Provengo de una orgullosa familia peruana y soy bilingüe secuencial. Mi padre sirvió en el ejército (¡Hooah!) durante toda mi infancia, lo que me brindó la oportunidad única de vivir en muchos lugares del mundo y asistir a 12 escuelas diferentes.
Me enorgullece ser graduada de la Universidad de Texas en Austin (Hook ‘Em 🤘), donde obtuve un bachillerato en Desarrollo Humano y Ciencias de la Familia, una maestría en Educación Especial y una maestría en Liderazgo y Política Educativa.
Mi trayectoria educativa comenzó como terapeuta ABA y más tarde como asistente educativa en una escuela primaria. A partir de ahí, me convertí en profesora de lengua dual de tercer grado en el distrito escolar independiente de Austin, seguida de puestos como subdirectora y luego coordinadora de MTSS para escuelas primarias en el distrito escolar independiente de Round Rock. Y ahora, tengo el honor de servir a la increíble comunidad de Veterans' Hill.
Estoy casada con el amor de mi vida, Avery Gary, y juntos tenemos un hijo maravilloso, Avery Gary Jr., conocido cariñosamente como AJ. Ser esposa y madre es una de las mayores alegrías de mi vida, y la familia es el centro de mis valores fundamentales.
Espero trabajar con cada uno de ustedes y sus hijos para garantizar que todos los estudiantes reciban apoyo, se les planteen retos y se les celebre mientras navegan hacia un futuro brillante.
